Ancistrolepis was named by Dall (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Neptuneidae by Durham (1944) and Moore (1984); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Buccinidae by Squires (1984) and Rosenberg et al. (2006); and to Ancistrolepidinae by Titova (1994) and Amano and Oleinik (2016).
