Pectunculus acuticostatus was named by Sowerby (1849) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Pliocene; Caribbean.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Axinea acuticostata by Gabb (1873); it was recombined as Glycymeris acuticostatus by Brown and Pilsbry (1911); it was recombined as Glycymeris acuticostata by Maury (1917) and Maury (1920); it was recombined as Tucetona acuticostata by Hendy et al. (2008).
