Taxonomy
Voluta prunum was named by Gmelin (1791) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Caribbean.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Prunum.

It was recombined as Marginella (Marginella) prunum by Weisbord (1962); it was recombined as Prunum prunum by Herrmannsen (1852), Olsson (1964) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
