Taxonomy
Cancellaria defuniak was named by Gardner (1947) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; Florida.]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 5618 - DeFuniak Springs [Shoal River Fm], which is in a Serravallian marine marl/sandstone in the Shoal River Formation of Florida.

It was recombined as Cancellaria (Cancellaria) defuniak by Woodring (1970).
