Taxonomy
Cancellaria runchaena was named by Gardner (1947) [DISTRIBUTION: Middle Miocene; Florida.]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USGS Loc. 3732 - Dave Adams Mill Creek [Shoal River Fm], which is in a Serravallian marine marl/sandstone in the Shoal River Formation of Florida.

It was recombined as Cancellaria (Massyla) runchaena by Woodring (1970).
