Cancellaria insulare was named by Pilsbry and Johnson (1917) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene; Caribbean.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Trigonostoma insulare by Woodring (1970); it was recombined as Ventrilia insulare by Landau et al. (2012) and Landau et al. (2012).
