Pleurotoma oxytropis was named by Sowerby (1834) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Eastern Pacific.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Pleuroliria (Polystira) oxytropis by Woodring (1970); it was recombined as Polystira oxytropis by Olsson (1964) and Hendy et al. (2008).
