Columbella dormitor was named by Sowerby (1844) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Caribbean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Mitromorpha dormitor by Woodring (1928) and Hendy et al. (2008).

Synonyms
  • Mitromorpha cincta was named by Dall (1900) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene; Florida.]. It is not a trace fossil.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Mitromorpha dormitor by Hendy et al. (2008).
