Mitra longa was named by Gabb (1873) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocence-?; Carribean.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Mitra (Tiara) longa by Woodring (1928) and Woodring (1964); it was recombined as Subcancilla longa by Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
