Mitra tortuosellum was named by Pilsbry and Johnson (1922) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Pliocene; Dominican Republic.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Vexillum (Uromitra) tortuosellum by Woodring (1928); it was recombined as Uromitra tortuosellum by Woodring (1964).
