Glyphostoma exopilatum was named by Woodring (1928) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Pliocene; Jamaica.]. Its type specimen is USNM 369408, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Glyphostoma (Glyphostoma) exopilatum by Todd (2001).
