Taxonomy
Asthenotoma was named by Harris and Burrows (1891) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 700]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Turridae by Oostingh (1935), Harris and Palmer (1947) and Baluk (2003); to Borsoniinae by Wienrich and Janssen (2007); and to Borsoniidae by Bouchet et al. (2011).
