Chicoreus cosmani was named by Abbott and Finlay (1979) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene-Recent; Caribbean.]. It is extant. Its type specimen is USNM 783323, a shell.

It was recombined as Chicoreus (Chicoreus) cosmani by Vokes (1989).
