Taxonomy
Mya arctica was named by Linnaeus (1767) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic-Recent; Cosmopolitan.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Saxicava arctica by Glenn (1904); it was recombined as Hiatella arctica by Abbott (1974) and Bosselaers et al. (2004); it was recombined as Hiatella (Hiatella) arctica by Freneix et al. (1988) and Moths et al. (2010).

Synonyms
  • Mytilus rugosus was named by Linnaeus (1767) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Northern Atlantic.]. It is extant.

    It was recombined as Hiatella rugosa by Spencer (1966); it was synonymized subjectively with Hiatella arctica by Coan et al. (2000).
