Margarita costulata was named by Möller (1842) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Northern eastern and western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Moelleria costulata by Verkrüzen (1887) and Hendy et al. (2008).
