Buccinum pyramidale was named by Ström (1788) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Northern Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Bela pyramidalis by Sars (1878); it was recombined as Pleurotoma pyramidalis by Leche (1878); it was recombined as Oenopota pyramidalis by Hendy et al. (2008).
