Cuspidaria (Bowdenia) distira was named by Dall (1903) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Pliocene; Caribbean.]. Its type specimen is USNM 135692, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Cardiomya (Bowdenia) distira by Jung (1996).
