Babylonia was named by Schlüter (1838) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol R Sepkoski's reference number: 614]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Babyloniidae by Titova (1994); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Buccinidae by Oostingh (1935), Mukerjee (1939), Wienrich (2001) and Harzhauser (2002).
