Mytilus discors was named by Linnaeus (1767) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Modiola discors by Woods (1850); it was recombined as Musculus discors by Röding (1798), Coan et al. (2000) and Spencer et al. (2004).

Synonyms
  • Modiola substriata was named by Gray (1824) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

    It was recombined as Musculus substriata by Richards (1962); it was synonymized subjectively with Musculus discors by Hendy et al. (2008).
