P. Callomon and M. A. Snyder 2017 | Shell small to medium for family
(to 49 mm SL), bucciniform with short, broad rostrum. Small, bulbous and slightly heterostrophic protoconch of ca. 1.5 whorls; teleoconch sculpture of thick, rounded and evenly spaced axial ribs that span sutures in early whorls and become reduced in final part of body whorl. Six to eight major spiral cords between sutures of early whorls with occasional minor cords interspersed; cords expanding only slightly in crossing axial ribs. Cords cover entire adult shell, ca. 25 in adult specimen, thickening slightly towards anterior end. Fine axial sculpture of growth lirae over entire shell. Columellar margin of aperture and canal distinct; slightly edged in distal part of canal. Interior of aperture with ca. 20 spiral cords arranged in rough pairs; cords terminate at uniform distance from lip. Aperture wall immediately behind lip clearly thickened; lip margin thickened and glossy with crenulations corresponding to external spiral cords. Canal short, open; rostrum slightly reflexed. |
