Archaeolithoporella was named by Endo (1959). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Archaeolithoporella hidensis.

It was assigned to Rhodophyta by Wu (1991); and to Aphralysiaceae by Krainer and Vachard (2019).
