Baryspira was named by Fischer (1883) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 899]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Amalda (Baryspira) by Beu et al. (1990), Harzhauser (2002), Mandic et al. (2002) and Harzhauser et al. (2002); it was reranked as Ancilla (Baryspira) by Görges (1952), MacNeil (1960), Marasti (1973) and Mandic and Steininger (2003).

It was assigned to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Amalda by Beu et al. (1990), Harzhauser (2002), Mandic et al. (2002) and Harzhauser et al. (2002); and to Ancilla by Görges (1952), MacNeil (1960), Marasti (1973) and Mandic and Steininger (2003).
