Scapharca arthurpennelli was named by Maury (1917) [TYPE LOCALITY: Dominican Republic (Miocene-Pliocene). TYPE REPOSITORY: Presumably PRI, New York.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Arca (Scapharca) arthupennelli by Barrios (1960); it was recombined as Lunarca arthurpennelli by Hendy et al. (2008).
