Schizochoerus anatoliensis was named by van der Made (1997). Its type specimen is MTA ACH 1339, a tooth (m3 inf. dext.), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Candir, which is in a MN 5/MN 6 terrestrial claystone in Turkey.
