Chrysodomus stonei was named by Pilsbry (1893) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene; Massachusetts-Virginia.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Neptunea stonei by Richards (1962) and Hendy et al. (2008).
