Nassa acuta was named by Say (1822) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Nassarius acutus by Richards (1962); it was recombined as Nassarius (Nassarius) acutus by Hendy et al. (2008).
