Murex perversum was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Sinistrofulgur perversum by Petuch and Roberts (2007); it was recombined as Busycon perversum by Richards (1962) and Hendy et al. (2008).
