Taxonomy
Pleurotoma cerinum was named by Kurtz and Stimpson (1851). It is extant. It is the type species of Kurtziella, Kurtziella (Kurtziella).

It was recombined as Mangilia cerina by Richards (1962); it was recombined as Kurtziella (Kurtziella) cerina by Woodring (1970); it was recombined as Kurtziella cerina by Hendy et al. (2008).
