Ansomys was named by Qiu (1987). It was considered monophyletic by Hopkins (2004).
It was assigned to Aplodontidae by Hopkins (2004) and Korth (2007); and to Ansomyinae by Kelly and Korth (2005), Bi et al. (2013) and Korth et al. (2022).
