Calophos was named by Woodring (1964) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l T Plio-u Sepkoski's reference number: 553,926]. Its type is Calophos ectyphus.

It was assigned to Buccinidae by Woodring (1964) and Todd (2001); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bulliinae by Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
