Cardium elegantulum was named by Möller (1842) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; North Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Cerastoderma elegantulum by Bennike et al. (1994); it was recombined as Goethemia elegantulum by Hendy et al. (2008).
