Taxonomy
Palaeoscaptor rectus was named by Matthew and Granger (1924). It is not extant. Its type specimen is AMNH 19146, a mandible (with m2, m3). Its type locality is Loh, which is in an Oligocene terrestrial horizon in the Hsanda Gol Formation of Mongolia.

W. D. Matthew and W. Granger 1924teeth, so far as shown, similar to those of P. acridens, except for considerably larger size and greater reduction of m3, which has no heel. Lower jaw angle long, flat, projecting backwards in a rahter slender process upturned toward tip.
