Taxonomy
Cypraea spurca was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Recent; Caribbean.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Ocellaria.

It was recombined as Ocellaria spurca by Weinkauff (1881); it was recombined as Erosaria (Ravitrona) spurca by Schilder (1941); it was recombined as Ravitrona spurca by Coomans (1956); it was recombined as Cypraea (Erosaria) spurca by Weisbord (1962); it was recombined as Erosaria (Erosaria) spurca by Groves (1992); it was recombined as Erosaria spurca by Schilder and Schilder (1939) and Moretzsohn et al. (2015).
