Vermetus irregularis was named by d'Orbigny (1841) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Caribbean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Petaloconchus irregularis by Woodring et al. (1924); it was recombined as Dendropoma irregulare by Hendy et al. (2008).
