Naticina lactea was named by Guilding (1834) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Caribbean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Natica lactea by Krebs (1864); it was recombined as Polinices (Mammilla) lactea by Maury (1922); it was recombined as Polinices lactea by Woodring et al. (1924); it was recombined as Polinices lacteus by Weisbord (1962) and Callapez and Ferreira Soares (2000).
