Turritella alternata was named by Say (1822) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Diastoma alternatum by Spencer and Campbell (1987); it was recombined as Bittiolum alternatum by Hendy et al. (2008).

Synonyms
  • Pasithea nigra was named by Totten (1834) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Caribbean.]. It is extant.

    It was recombined as Cerithium nigrum by Woodring et al. (1924); it was synonymized subjectively with Bittiolum alternatum by Hendy et al. (2008).
