Taxonomy
Trochus modulus was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; North Carolina-circum-Caribbean.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Modulus.

It was recombined as Modulus modulus by Gray (1842) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
