Taxonomy
Clathurella was named by Carpenter (1857) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 852]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Clathurellinae.

It was reranked as Pleurotoma (Clathurella) by Anderson (1905); it was reranked as Mangilia (Clathurella) by Vredenburg (1921).

It was assigned to Pleurotoma by Anderson (1905); to Mangeliinae by Maury (1917); to Mangilia by Vredenburg (1921); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Turridae by Baluk (2003); and to Clathurellidae by Bouchet et al. (2011).
