Elmira cornuarietis was named by Cooke (1919) [DISTRIBUTION: ?Oligocene-Miocene; Caribbean.]. Its type specimen is USNM 167036, a partial shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USNM 3652, 5312, which is in a Ypresian/Bartonian coastal tar in Cuba. It is the type species of Elmira.
