Nerita pupa was named by Linnaeus (1767) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Western Atlantic.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Neretina pupa by Vaughn (1921); it was recombined as Puperita pupa by Hendy et al. (2008).
