Pycinaster magnificus was named by Spencer (1913). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Sedgwick Museum, Cambridge, holotype B.34647.

M. G. Schulz and W. Weitschat 1971Large species. Superomarginal of the disc tall comparatively to that P. crassus, height nearly twice as width, slightly cuneate with abactinal side domed. Median inferomarginal high, rectangular with vertical external face. Marginal plate almost smooth or with very discrete granule pits.
