Sigaretus bilix was named by Conrad (1833) [DISTRIBUTION: Middle Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is ANSP 15263, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Stomatia bilix by Conrad (1854); it was recombined as Catinus bilix by Conrad (1865); it was recombined as Sinum bilix by Palmer (1937) and Palmer and Brann (1966).
