Columbellopsis was named by Bucquoy et al. (1882) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 794,909]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Mitrella (Columbellopsis) by Woodring (1964) and Addicott (1970).

It was assigned to Pyrenidae by Gardner (1947); to Mitrella by Woodring (1964) and Addicott (1970); to Columbellidae by Todd (2001) and Wienrich (2001); and to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
