Comitas was named by Finlay (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 530]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Turriculidae by Hickman (1980); to Turridae by Ladd (1982); to Turriculinae by Hickman (1976) and Wilson (1994); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudomelatomidae by Bouchet et al. (2011) and Darragh (2017).
