Comitas was named by Finlay (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 530]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Turridae by Ladd (1982); to Turriculinae by Wilson (1994); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudomelatomidae by Bouchet et al. (2011).
