Indotherium was named by Yadagiri (1984). Its type is Indotherium pranhitai.
It was assigned to Symmetrodonta by Yadagiri (1984); to Triconodonta by Prasad and Manhas (1997); and to Morganucodontidae by Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004) and Prasad et al. (2006).
