Cordieria was named by Rouault (1848) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 794]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Turridae by Wenz (1938), Harris and Palmer (1947) and Dockery (1977); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Borsoniidae by Bouchet et al. (2011) and Darragh (2017).
