Pteria argentea

Bivalvia - Ostreida - Pteriidae

Taxonomy
Avicula argentea was named by Conrad (1848) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Oligocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is ANSP 30644, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Vicksburg, which is in a Rupelian marine marl in the Byram Marl Formation of Mississippi.

It was recombined as Pteria argentea by Dall (1898), Mansfield (1940) and Dockery (1982).
