Pecten poulsoni was named by Morton (1834) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Oligocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is ANSP 274, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Pecten (Janira) poulsoni by de Gregorio (1890); it was recombined as Pecten (Pecten) poulsoni by Dall (1898) and Dockery (1982).
