Plagiostoma dumosum was named by Morton (1834) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Oligocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Lima dumosa by d'Orbigny (1850) and d'Orbigny (1850); it was recombined as Spondylus (Spondylus) dumosus by Dockery (1980) and Dockery (1982); it was recombined as Spondylus dumosus by Conrad (1865) and Squires and Demetrion (1990).
